Labour's Ute tax is returning

Submit a correction

The claim traces to a doorstep exchange between Labour candidate Michael Wood and a voter about the (misleadingly named) Ute tax, in which Wood reportedly gave a non-committal answer. Labour has since explicitly ruled out reinstating the Ute Tax/Clean Car Discount, with its transport spokesperson calling National's claim misinformation.

As of 16 August, the day of the claim, there was no evidence of any such policy, and Labour had proposed only one new tax.
