New Zealand First has Neo Nazis in their ranks

On August 3, a detailed story by Charlie Mitchell in The Press revealed information about Nicholas Newport (23). Newport has been an executive member of New Zealand First's youth wing since late 2024 and spoke at the party's 2026 national convention.

The story revealed that Newport was previously known as Nicholas Wells. Under that former name, he was linked to neo-Nazi online groups in both New Zealand and Australia, including Australia's National Socialist Network. He had also appeared at far-right protests and posted content praising Adolf Hitler.

Under his current identity he has also made anti-immigration comments online.

Party leader, Winston Peters, did not deny the link. Instead he called the reporting a "pathetic lowball hit job," and Newport does not appear to have been suspended or expelled from the party.
