Only Opportunity is wanting to address party donations
Submit a correctionOn TVNZ's Q+A (August 16), Opportunity leader Qiulae Wong said "I don't see any of the other political parties proposing to change the system, which we all, I think, agree is unfair," while defending her own party's acceptance of over $400,000 in large donations this year. Despite this, they are campaigning to ban donations above $30,000.
This is false: the Green Party has its own specific donation-reform policy, the third of four main points on the front page of their 2026 Manifesto, and has previously introduced a bill addressing political donations (2022). Former PM, Helen Clark, separately called Wong's Q+A interview a "train wreck" over the contradiction between her party's stated policy and its fundraising practice.
