Ram Raids are down 85% Under National

Ram raids peaked at 714 recorded incidents in 2022. By October 2023, before that year's election, they had already fallen roughly 83%.

This followed Labour's Small Retailer Crime Prevention Fund. This funded bollards, shatterproof glass, and other protective measures for retailers.

Police data shows the decline continued under National, down almost 60% again in 2024. But media coverage of the issue dropped sharply after the 2023 election. This created the impression the turnaround began under the new government, rather than continuing a trend already well underway.
