There are 49,000 fewer victims of Violent Crime

National is using a metric known as the New Zealand Crime and Victims Survey, which captures and extrapolates unreported crime.

Because the data is based on extrapolation, and not actual reporting, like the Police data on Police recorded proceedings, and incluenced by survey methodology, which includes a 2% shift due to census benchmark changes, the number claimed is highly misleading.

Luxon and Goldsmith have admitted in a Press Conference that they used this survey data to mislead voters while using actual data stats to vilify Labour, and that there had been no significant change in crime rates.
